Sister in Big Law ("we," "us," or "our") publishes career content for lawyers and law students. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Sister in Big Law is a content and education brand operating at sisterinbiglaw.com, on Instagram as @sisterinbiglaw, and through the Of Counsel newsletter on Substack.

What we collect

When you visit our website. Our site is hosted on Squarespace, which automatically records standard technical information about visits — things like IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring site. We use Squarespace's built-in analytics and Google Analytics to understand general traffic patterns — how many people visit, which pages they read, and where they arrived from. We do not use this information to identify you individually.

When you contact us. If you send us a message through our contact form or by email, we receive whatever you choose to include — typically your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use it to respond to you.

When you subscribe to our newsletter. Our newsletter, Of Counsel, is hosted on Substack. When you subscribe, Substack collects and manages your subscription information under its own privacy policy, which you can read at substack.com/privacy. We can see subscriber email addresses and aggregate readership statistics through Substack's tools.

When you engage with us on Instagram. We use a private internal tool to review analytics about our own Instagram account — follower counts, aggregate audience demographics, and how our posts perform, along with engagement on content we've posted. This tool only ever accesses our own account. We do not use it to access anyone else's account, and we do not build profiles of individual followers. Anything you post publicly on Instagram, such as a comment on one of our posts, is governed by Instagram's own terms and privacy policy in addition to this one.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • operate and improve our website and content

  • respond to messages you send us

  • send our newsletter to people who have subscribed

  • understand, in aggregate, what content is useful to our audience

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of third-party platforms to operate, and your information may be processed by them in the course of providing their services to us:

  • Squarespace — website hosting and site analytics

  • Google Analytics — website traffic analytics

  • Substack — newsletter hosting and subscription management

  • Meta / Instagram — our social media presence and account analytics

Each of these operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies set by Squarespace to keep the site working properly, and cookies set by Google Analytics to measure traffic. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; parts of the site may not function normally if you do. You can also opt out of Google Analytics specifically using Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

We do not run advertising or retargeting pixels on our site.

How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy. Newsletter subscription data is retained until you unsubscribe. Messages you send us are retained as long as needed to respond and keep a reasonable record of the correspondence.

Your choices and how to delete your data

  • Newsletter. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes you from our list.

  • Requesting deletion. To ask us to delete information we hold about you, email hello@sisterinbiglaw.com with the subject line "Data deletion request" and tell us which information you'd like removed. We will confirm and act on your request within 30 days.

  • Instagram. To remove a comment you've posted on our content, you can delete it directly on Instagram. To revoke an app's access to your own Instagram account, visit Instagram Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites.

Children

Our content is intended for law students and practicing lawyers. Our site and newsletter are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our site and offerings change. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above.
